Life in Montserrat

Montserrat is on the move, but has taken precautions to preserve the unique environment it has enjoyed for hundreds of years. The new town being created at Little bay is now well underway and already includes eateries, and pubs. The “Sir George and Lady Martin Cultural Arts Center ”, is located near the Little Bay area, and seats up to 2500.  Nearby you will enjoy a new football/sports arena and new tennis courts.   Montserrat is also a proudly active participant in the much popularized 20-20 Cricket Competition; which, takes place throughout the Caribbean .  The “Salem Cricket Field” has been recently modernized.  These popular amenities along with the acclaimed  "Montserrat Market Square" is arrayed in true Caribbean tradition with a splash of modern trimmings and conveniences second to none.

Thus, while Montserrat may not be for everyone as it is a small ( ~ 40 Sq Mi), relatively private, and not yet fully developed country, you are welcome to come and partake in our tropical paradise, which is the safest and cleanest Island in the Caribbean in a truly delightful setting.

What Montserrat doesn't have…

There are no stop lights, no flashing neon lights, and no frantic pace;

No crowded cities. dirty beaches, no elevators

No glamour and glitz of a big city atmosphere

No pollution, environmental crowding, no industrial complex

No need for diesel fuel here

No high rise tenements’, or high rent districts

No tropical hurricanes since 1989 as Montserrat is not situated within the hurricane    belt.

What Montserrat does have…

Excellent fishing and sailing

World Class diving at an affordable cost

An abundance of safe, fresh water, well known as the best tasting water in the Caribbean Most.  Other Caribbean Islands rely on desalination plants for fresh water.

Unhurried, unspoiled environment

Some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, including the Soufriere Hills Volcano; an active volcano comparable to a modern day Pompeii, which is located on the distant South side of the Island a safe 6 miles from Campus

We invite you to partake the tranquility of our un-crowded tropical beaches, observe the brilliant tropical flowers, animals and lush vegetation, take part in world class sailing diving and fishing expeditions, eat in excellent restaurants and visit friendly night spots with a distinctive Caribbean flair located near campus.  Take advantage of easily accessible and inexpensive transportation, hike our miles of trails and winding mountain roads and enjoy activities inspired by natural wonders.  As you will see. we have nearby picture perfect views with abundant natural amenities just waiting for your exploration and discovery.

You’ll definitely want to visit Montserrat’s active volcano and the site of a buried city, previously known as Plymouth (a modern-day version of Pompeii ).  The memorable hike is a safe distance of 5 miles from the Campus and routinely monitored by government agencies.
